Woman giving legal advice

If you have a legal issue, there are 3 main options for getting help to resolve it.

The option that's right for you depends on the type of problem you have, your needs and eligibility, as well as how complex your case is.

1. Ombudsmen or dispute resolution services

These organisations investigate and help to resolve your dispute. In many cases it is worth trying this option first. Get help with your dispute.

2. Free or low-cost legal services

These services are generally able to provide initial legal advice and information to anyone for free. They will also refer you to right service if they can't help. Contact these services.

3. A private lawyer

Private lawyers will explain your legal problem and help resolve it. You will have to pay for their services. Get referrals to lawyers.
